Amazon, Ferragamo sue several firms, people over counterfeit products

Feb 11 (Reuters) - Amazon.com Inc and Italianfashion group Salvatore Ferragamo on Thursday jointlysued several individuals and entities, mainly based in China,for allegedly selling counterfeit Ferragamo belts on its onlineretail store.

The companies filed two lawsuits against four individualsand three entities, according to court documents, alleging thatthe defendants advertised and sold counterfeit Ferragamoproducts on the Amazon store, using its registered trademarkswithout authorization.

Out of seven defendants, the lawsuit says five are based inChina and the other two could be in China or North Carolina orCalifornia. The lawsuit said several other defendants arepresently unknown.

Last year, Amazon announced https://www.reuters.com/article/us-amazon-com-counterfeit-idUSKBN1ZC25Uplans to give more data on counterfeit goods to law enforcementin a further crackdown on fakes peddled on its sites, much ofwhich is sourced from China.

The companies said they are looking to permanently preventthe defendants from causing further harm to Amazon's andFerragamo's intellectual property and to hold the defendantsaccountable for their actions.
