‘Please do this every week!’: New Aldi feature fans love

Aldi is entering the world of meal planning and its fans couldn’t be happier.

“There’s a new way to plan delicious weeknight dinners without breaking the bank,” the supermarket giant announced on Facebook.

“We call it Fine-ish Dining, and it lets you cook 5 value-packed dinners for a family of 4.”

The Fine-ish Dining feature has recipes for Monday to Friday. This week includes recipes like lemon chicken with corn salsa and wedges, and pea and roasted pumpkin gnocchi.

And Aldi fans are well and truly on board.

“My first thought, awesome,” one person responded on Facebook.

“This is a great idea I never know what to cook and cheap too, thanks Aldi,” said another.

“Please do this every week!” another excited fan said.

However, while Aldi provides the ingredients list, it doesn’t provide the cost of the meals on the website.

“It would be good if Aldi priced the ingredient,” one shopper noted.

Another did the math, finding the weekly meal plan would cost $67.50 on top of the assumed pantry essentials.

Aldi’s dinner plans come months after Coles announced its meal-planning service: What’s For Dinner.

Coles’ plans promise to be meals that can be made in under 30 minutes with five ingredients or less.

Coles’ meals range upwards from $4.15 a serve for ‘Mince-it Monday’, which includes Cook with Curtis Mexican Recipe beef mince, taco shells, iceberg lettuce, tomatoes and tomato salsa.

“This year, we undertook one of the biggest customer studies ever conducted into the dinner time habits of Australians to really understand customer pain points and how we can help them through great value food solutions,” Coles chief marketing officer Lisa Ronson said in October last year.

“We have created meal plans to help customers with some of the biggest challenges they face preparing dinner every night – from lack of time to cook from scratch to kids who turn their nose up at healthy options, and boredom with cooking the same handful of dishes every week because it seems too hard to try something new.”
