Over the past year, we’ve spent more time at home than ever, which might have prompted moments of scrutinizing your living space. If you’ve found yourself wanting to update portions of your home or apartment, Etsy published a report on a few of the 2021 top home decor trends that have recently been spiking in online searches.

In the report, Etsy identified six decor styles that are quickly rising in popularity and becoming more mainstream. Among the list are marble-like travertine accessories, Japanese and Scandinavian aesthetics, squiggly pieces, accents to create an at-home sanctuary, checkered prints and mushroom motifs.

Not only will you want to add these funky decor ideas to your Pinterest board ASAP, but they’re also actually practical and affordable to add to almost any current aesthetic — it’s an easy way to make your home feel more “2021.”

Below are six top home decor trends of 2021 and the items that you can shop now to instantly update your space.

1. Travertine

As a super durable material, travertine is a practical accent that can be used in many different spaces. While it had a moment in the ’80s, you can now find more modern versions of the trend. Shoppers are looking for all types of travertine items, so much so that searches have increased 211% this year, according to Etsy.

Shop the trend:

  1. CB2 Via Large Travertine Knot, $169

  2. Natural Stone Classic Travertine Vessel Sink, $400

  3. Decorative Travertine Cutting Board, $85+

2. Japanese and Scandinavian-inspired aesthetics

Scandinavian decor has become popular over the years thanks to IKEA becoming more mainstream in the U.S., but now, the interior design style is getting an update by being paired with touches of Japanese decor. Etsy refers to it as “Japandi,” which is “a hybrid of Japanese and Scandinavian aesthetics” that creates a “clutter-free yet cozy space.” With the Scandinavian aesthetic paired with Japanese influences, you get a tranquil environment that feels both modern and natural.
