McDonald’s is turning 50 years old in Australia, and it’s celebrating by practically giving away Big Macs this Friday.

The global fast food chain will make its iconic Big Mac burgers available for just 50 cents on Friday 18 June to celebrate the major milestone.

The burgers usually sell for $6.55 – so that’s a huge $6.10 saving.

“We are extremely proud to be celebrating 50 years of providing great tasting food and supporting our customers, people and communities in Australia,” said McDonald’s Australia CEO Andrew Gregory.

“We are firm believers in the quality and taste of Australian home grown produce and have always been and remain committed to our local suppliers and supporting more than 15,000 Aussie farmers annually.”

In the last half a century, it’s sold nearly 2 billion cheeseburgers and 1.1 billion Big Macs to Aussies, with the chain responsible for injecting $9 billion into Australia’s agriculture industry.

To celebrate the chain’s 50th anniversary, there will be a new initiative announced every week from this Friday onwards until the end of August.

McDonald’s recently made waves by announcing a collaboration with Korean boyband BTS that features a meal of chicken nuggets, fries, and two limited-edition sauces.

Here’s how to get the 50c Big Macs

You’ll just need to have a smartphone handy.

On Friday 18 June, order the Big Mac through the MyMacca’s app.

The app will let you access exclusive deals, skip the queue and pick up your order at your selected McDonald’s restaurant, and customise your order as well.
