Cowboy boots are having a moment (again) – these are the styles we're shopping RN

Cowboy boots are top of our footwear wishlist RN. We know what you're thinking, weren't cowboy boots big news last year? Yes, yes they were. But, thanks to the recent release of Beyoncé's Cowboy Carter album, Westerncore is going nowhere. If Beyoncé's in her cowgirl era, we want to be too!

So, if you resisted investing in the celeb-favourite look (we're looking at you Kendall Jenner, Dua Lipa, and Millie Bobby Brown) it's time to go from 'meh' to 'YEAH' because there's officially no better time to take the plunge. Especially given how many styles are available to shop across the high street.

As well as being trans-seasonal, they're also super versatile working with everything from tucked-in trews to wide-leg denim and floaty summer dresses. They're also much comfier than any strappy sandals or unsupportive flats. Plus, they instantly give any outfit a fun, 'fash-hun' edge, which we're all about. So much so that the cowboy boot has become our festival fashion hero item. We're predicting many a pair at this year's Coachella.

Before we go any further, let's just quickly go over the main differences between regular boots and cowboys. First up, Western boots typically have a pointed or square-shaped toe that's slightly raised off the ground. The heel is often a block style and though the height can vary, it makes them a more practical choice than other heeled boots. And they will usually have a dip in the front and back of the shaft (AKA the bit that sits over your shin). Available in knee-high and ankle styles, you can opt for more minimal designs or go all out with custom stitching, contrasting detailing, and any embellishments.

So, now that we know exactly the kind of boots we're talking about, here are a handful of outfits that really lend themselves to cowboys, ranging from office to party options, followed by an edit of our favourite styles to shop now, whatever your budget.

1. To offset floaty summer skirts

Trainers might've been your go-to shoe for brunch with the gals, but why not try the Western boot? You can't go wrong with black cowboy boots, as they go with almost everything and add a polished edge to your casual summer 'fits.

2. Or elevate co-ord sets

Take your cowboy boots out for a night on the town by teaming them with snazzy co-ords. There are some really gorge metallic styles out there perfect for dressing up any outfit and ticking off a big spring summer fashion trend in one. The best part? These boots really are made for walking (and dancing).

3. Layer under white trousers

If you're after a more subtle effect, layer your booties under crisp white denim, with the signature toe poking out the bottom. The key to nailing this look is a wide leg that easily flows over your boots, bunched-up trousers are not a lewk.

4. Tuck in your trousers

Go full rodeo-ready and tuck your trousers legs into your cowboy boots. Whether you opt for skinny jeans or leave your legs looking loose and slouchy, there's no right or wrong way to do it. If it was good enough for Princess Diana, after all.

5. Match with oversized blazers

Looking for a way to incorporate your new cowboys into your workwear rotation? Slip them on with a matching blazer and a skirt or shorts (depending on how chillaxed your office's dress code is), and you're good to go.

Armed with *plenty* of style inspiration, time to get shopping! We'd always recommend heading to your local vintage shop – you might be able to bag yourself a bargain with a style nobody else will have. Plus, any chance to support sustainable fashion practices is always a win in our books.
