This 1994 Japanese classic broke auction records selling for nearly $170,000
A 1994 Toyota Supra has set a new record as the most expensive Supra sold at an auction, going for AUD $169,575 on US car website Bring a Trailer last Friday.
However, the title of the most expensive Supra ever sold still belongs to the highly modified 1993 model, featured in the 2001 Fast and Furious film, which sold for AUD$279,830.
The record-breaking bid comes after two other low-mileage 1994 models were sold in March and October last year for AUD$112,800 and AUD$98,088 respectively, according to Hagerty.
The winning bid was the result of a few frenzied final minutes which saw the price shoot up from AUD$126,130 to the new record-setting figure.
The exterior of the A80 Supra is finished in Renaissance Red and only has 7,111 miles – or 11,444 kilometres – on the odometer.
The JZA80 Supra boasts a black and tan leather interior, 17-inch wheels, and the twin-turbo 2JZ 3.0-litre inline six, which has made the Supra a favourite for drag racing.
The 2JZ was a favourite among car tuners, and many similar cars were cut up and modified as a result, making the totally uncustomised red Supra a rare gem.
The Supra will be on display at the Chicago Northside Toyota, according to a comment by the winning bidder.
