Queenslanders can now get rebates to buy and install energy-efficient appliances. But you’ll need to get in quick.

Thousands of Queensland households can now claim rebates of up to $1,000 to buy and install energy-efficient appliances.

Around 40,000 households in the state are eligible for the cash grants, which cover household items like washing machines, fridges, dryers, dishwashers, air-conditioners and hot water systems.

The program is being offered on a first-come, first-served basis and will be available until its $22 million funding is exhausted.

“Funds are limited, so it’s important to lodge your receipt as soon as possible after making a purchase, and to check with your retailer when at the checkout to make sure there’s still funding available,” Acting Minister for Energy, Renewables and Hydrogen Mark Bailey said.

On top of the instant cash boost, the government said Aussies who switched to more energy-efficient appliances would also be able to lower their energy bills.

It estimates households who switch from a 2-star to 4-star washing machine could save around $117 on their bills each year, while switching to a heat pump hot water system could save more than $1,100 a year.

How to get the rebate

Rebates of between $300 and $1,000 are available for eligible Queensland households who replace their appliances with a 4-star-rated or higher appliance, or energy-efficient hot water system.

All Queensland households are eligible for the standard rebate, with higher rebates available for low-income households who meet the Low Income Tax Offset threshold of $66,667. Only one rebate is available per household.

Here are the rebates available:

  • Washing machines - $300 (standard income), $550 (low income)

  • Dishwashers - $300 (standard income), $550 (low income)

  • Dryers - $300 (standard income), $550 (low income)

  • Refrigerators - $350 (standard income), $600 (low income)

  • Air conditioners - $400 (standard income), $650 (low income)

  • Solar and heat pump hot water systems - $800 (standard income), $1,000 (low income)

You can apply for the Climate Smart Energy Savers rebate online with a copy of the receipt as proof of purchase.
