UPDATE 1-RBC appoints Nadine Ahn as CFO

(Adds appointment details, background)

Sept 17 (Reuters) - Royal Bank of Canada on Friday appointed Nadine Ahn as its new finance chief, taking over from Rod Bolger, who will leave after a decade-long stint at the lender.

The move comes as major banks globally are forced to bring about change in an industry that has few women or people of color in its top ranks.

Last year, Laurentian Bank of Canada named Rania Llewellyn chief executive officer and president, making her the first woman to head a major Canadian bank.

Citigroup Inc last year also named Jane Fraser as its new CEO, making her the first woman to lead a major Wall Street bank.

Ahn, who is currently senior vice-president, head of investor relations and RBC Capital Markets Finance, will take on the role of CFO on Nov. 1, the bank said.

Ahn joined RBC, Canada's biggest lender, in 1999 and has held senior finance roles, including in Corporate Treasury. (Reporting by Noor Zainab Hussain in Bengaluru; Editing by Maju Samuel)
