Rare earths miner MP Materials reported wider-than-expected loss in first quarter on Thursday, hurt by lower concentrate sales and weak prices for the strategic minerals. MP processes rock it extracts from its Mountain Pass mine in California into rare earths concentrate. It is the second-biggest producer of rare earths outside China after Australia's Lynas Rare Earths and produces about 15% of the rare earth content consumed annually.
Lloyd's of London insurers Hiscox and Lancashire do not expect large insurance claims from the collapse of Baltimore's Francis Scott Key Bridge in March that caused widespread disruption, they said on Thursday. Hiscox does not have direct exposure to the business interruption policy of the port, which is the busiest in the United States for auto shipments, or the property policy covering the bridge, the insurer said in its first-quarter trading statement. Hiscox said it was one of the reinsurers on the International Group of P&I Clubs' ship reinsurance policy, but said it expected its net loss to be "moderate", without giving further explanation.

(Reuters) -GSK raised its full-year profit forecast on Wednesday on strong demand for its common respiratory vaccine and specialty HIV medicines, though it expects sales growth to slow in the second half. CEO Emma Walmsley's strategy has focussed on vaccines, cancer and infectious diseases and a shift in the company's HIV focus to long-acting treatment and prevention therapies. It expects 2024 sales to grow at the upper end of its 5% to 7% forecast range.
(Reuters) -Pfizer lifted its annual earnings forecast on Wednesday and reported a first-quarter profit above Wall Street estimates, boosted by cost cutting efforts and stronger-than-expected sales of its COVID antiviral treatment. Sales of Padcev, a treatment for advanced bladder cancer Pfizer gained through its $43 billion deal for Seagen, also came in ahead of analysts' expectations. The Seagen deal, as well as its $4 billion cost-cutting plan, are a key part of Pfizer's post-COVID growth strategy.
