Stocks moving in after hours: Meta, Roku, eBay, Teladoc Health

Yahoo Finance Live anchor Seana Smith takes a look at several stocks trending in the after-hours trading session.

Video transcript

DAVID BRIGGS: All right, Seana, what's moving after hours?

SEANA SMITH: All right, Dave. We got four names for you here. Meta, Roku, eBay and Teladoc, all having to do with earnings.

Let's kick it off with Meta. You're looking at gains of just about 12% right now in extended trading, an impressive report here from the social media giant. 2Q sales outlook, that was one of the headlines here, coming in better than what the Street was looking for. Also posting beats on both the top and bottom line. Meta reporting a 4% increase year-over-year basis in ad revenue, also a 4% increase in daily active users.

Meta, one of the names entering that AI races in the second line of this earnings release. And Mark Zuckerberg, the CEO, saying that our AI work is driving good results across our apps and our business. Year-to-date we're looking at gains of just about 74%, really recouping many of the losses that we saw back in 2022. On a one-year basis, the stock now up 15%.

Let's flip it over to Roku, another mover here in extended trading. That stock up just about 3%. A couple of big headlines. 2Q revenue outlook also better than what the Street was looking for here. A narrower than expected loss in the first quarter is also helping to drive some of the action that we're seeing play out in extended trading. Q1 sales up 1% on a year-over-year basis.

Roku also announcing a partnership with Instacart. Now this is all geared towards marketing, and Roku says that they are going to better help companies like Instacart target their audience, Roku saying that it's going to be able to track whether or not people are buying products after they see the Instacart ads. So we'll see whether or not that really pays off here and what that could mean for the future of the advertising space. But we're looking at year-to-date gains of just about 38% here for Roku.

Moving on down to eBay, the third company in a row that we've talked about with better than expected 2Q sales guidance, one of the drivers here in after hours trading, up just about 3.5%. Profit and sales for the first quarter also coming in better than expected. Year-to-date looking at gains of just about 4.5%. Over the last year, the stock still off about 18%.

And rounding it out with Teladoc Health. That stock up about 5% here in extended trading, reporting a narrower than expected loss per share of $0.42. The Street was expecting a loss of $0.51. They also lifted the bottom end of their full-year revenue guidance, with the Street taking that as a sign of confidence here for the company for the remainder of 2023. You can see that stock off just about 55% in the past year.

Remember, Teladoc is one of the names that Cathie Wood has been betting on. She recently added to her position in Teladoc. And one of her ARK Innovation funds is one of the top holdings there. We'll see whether or not she is right about the future of this company. Year-to-date Teladoc is up just about 9%, Dave.

DAVID BRIGGS: The only thing we've said more than AI is better than expected.

SEANA SMITH: Better than expected. Lots of beats.

DAVID BRIGGS: [INAUDIBLE] seems to sum up the entire quarter. Thank you, Seana.
