Stocks lower at open, Caterpillar stock falls, gold hits 4-week high

Yahoo Finance’s Ines Ferre joins the Live show to break down how stocks are moving in early trading.

Video transcript

BRIAN SOZZI: Now, let's see how the markets are taking all of this data. Ines Ferré is standing by at the YFi YFi Interactive. Ines.

INES FERRÉ: Yeah, guys, the markets are lower right now. We're looking at the Dow that's down about 300 points, actually coming off those lows from earlier, was down about 315 points earlier. The NASDAQ composite down 0.4%. And the S&P 500 down 0.6%.

Taking a look at the sectors, it's materials and industrials, the ones that are losing the most and along with technology as well and financials.

Looking at the Dow, the one that we want to point out right now is Caterpillar down 4.5%, dragging on the Dow, along with Boeing as well. Caterpillar reporting its quarterly results, and also noting weakness in China.

Taking a look over at the NASDAQ 100, we did see Amazon that's been-- just flipped into the green territory. Tesla also in the green right now, up 0.2%. We are watching the Chinese ADRs, a little bit of a mixed picture here.

Also do want to note the mobility of-- the mobility graphs right now so that you can see. So the ride sharing, so you can look at Uber up 14% after its quarterly results and what it's doing. Also to Lyft up 11%, Dash is up more than 4% right now.

I do want to mention commodities because we have been watching WTI and Brent Crude up slightly. But the one that we're also watching right now being gold futures. So a gold hitting a four-week high, recently. And just pulling up a three-month chart, you can see here where we saw the action here for gold.

Now, I do want to point out that during the intraday here, you can see this spike here coming off of that spike here. So a little bit lower for them. But still 0.5% higher, up $9.00 per ounce. We are seeing a stronger dollar right now, guys.

BRAD SMITH: Ines Ferré, thanks so much for breaking that all down.
