NICK BROMBERG: Texas is about to make its second major coaching hire of 2021 now that Shaka Smart has reportedly departed the Longhorns to take the head coaching job at Marquette. It's probably the easiest outcome for all parties involved. Smart is a Wisconsin native and goes to a program that has won at least 20 games in 10 at the last 15 seasons. It was a little awkward at Texas after he led the Longhorns to their first-ever Big 12 Title and then lost in the first round to Abilene Christian as a number three seed. Abilene Christian, as you know, is from Texas. That's an embarrassing loss for the Longhorns, and Texas hasn't won an NCAA Tournament game since 2014.

The school has the resources to hire a big name coach, but it doesn't have the recent success. Look for Texas Tech coach Chris Beard to be the top guy mentioned for the Texas job. Will he leave another Big 12 school for Texas? We'll find out soon enough.
