Saweetie on Brady and Mahomes fashion | Dunk Bait

Lajethro Jenkins discussed with Saweetie her grandfather who was on the 49ers, her love of the game, and if Mahomes or Brady wore it better.

Saweetie, returns with her club-ready banger "Best Friend," featuring Grammy nominated rapper/singer Doja Cat. An empowering anthem, “Best Friend,” is primed for the most wild girls’ night out (or in).

Video transcript

LAJETHRO JENKINS: All right. I'm LaJethro Jenkins here with Saweetie. How you doing?

SAWEETIE: Oh, I've never heard that name before.

LAJETHRO JENKINS: That's [INAUDIBLE]. LaJethro's not my real name. My mom loves me more than that. So yeah, that's not my real name. But that's my work name. That's what they call me on the internet. You feel me?

I saw a video of you throwing a ball around. You got a cannon on you. What position did you play?

SAWEETIE: My favorite position to play is wide receiver. But nobody can throw like me. So I always end up as quarterback.

LAJETHRO JENKINS: This year it's the young bull versus the GOAT. Who you rootin' for in the Super Bowl this year?

SAWEETIE: You know I'm gonna root for the Black boy.

LAJETHRO JENKINS: OK, there we go. OK. I love the honesty, you know what I mean? It's necessary.

So there's been talk of Tom Brady being like the best athlete of all time, like of all time. What do you think about that?

SAWEETIE: I mean, I have no argument with it. He brings his teams to the Super Bowl. I think the funniest thing that I saw was on Twitter. It was like Brady said, he switched teams and was like, hey, y'all, let's go to the Super Bowl.

LAJETHRO JENKINS: Right, right, right, right, right. I wouldn't necessarily agree, but I see where people are coming from. You feel me?

SAWEETIE: Yeah, I could see where they comin' from. I know what it feels like to be an athlete. So I know like the work, the sacrifices. I mean, you sacrifice your personal time, your body. I sprained my ankle up, a couple things. So I know what that feel like.

LAJETHRO JENKINS: So being from the Bay, I imagine like a 49ers or Oakland fan. [INAUDIBLE]

SAWEETIE: Well, my grandfather used to play for the 49ers. He had the Super Bowl ring and everything.

LAJETHRO JENKINS: OK. OK. So you a 49ers fan then.

SAWEETIE: Yes.

LAJETHRO JENKINS: So who's your favorite player of all time?

SAWEETIE: My grandfather, Willie Harper.

LAJETHRO JENKINS: That makes sense. Shouldn't have even asked that. That was [INAUDIBLE]

Oh, you been going crazy like the last two years musically. And you're planning on-- you got [INAUDIBLE]. Oh, I mean, I'm just telling the truth, you feel me? But you plan on dropping a studio album soon this year. What can we expect from that? And when can we expect that?

SAWEETIE: I feel like I've kind of grown up in the public eye. I've made a lot of mistakes. I've had a lot of victories. So I feel like people have seen me grown. And I was already poppin' before music. I had my own clothing line. I was an ambassador for several clothing lines. So my face was already out there. So people have literally been able to see me grow.

LAJETHRO JENKINS: So like you do a good job of like mixing like the Bay Area like sound with like Atlanta, like that Atlanta sound too. Who inspires you?

SAWEETIE: That's a really good question. I used to be really inspired by like people my mom or my dad would play. But that kind of kept me like in the past. And I would say it's important to listen to everybody. So honestly, everybody inspired me. I love listening to new music. I love listening to older music. But I just draw from everywhere. I feel like there's no limit to inspiration. So there's not just one person or several people who like I consistently like look at for inspiration.

LAJETHRO JENKINS: So like with this studio album, I know like you have three [INAUDIBLE], they went crazy. What can we-- like does the formula change with a studio album?

SAWEETIE: Yes, the formula has changed. I have the proper guidance. And I just, you know, I'm very grateful for this mentorship that I've been given. My manager is now my uncle, [INAUDIBLE]. He's just been teaching me just the science behind music, which is [INAUDIBLE].

LAJETHRO JENKINS: "Best Friends" just dropped, right? You excited about that?

SAWEETIE: I love it. The video was crazy. Yeah, but it just been coming back to back, "Tap In," "Back to the Street."

LAJETHRO JENKINS: Yeah.

SAWEETIE: "Best Friend," and I got another one on the way.

LAJETHRO JENKINS: OK. When can we expect the new one?

SAWEETIE: Soon.

LAJETHRO JENKINS: OK, cool. Looking forward to it. Looking forward to it.

Saweetie, you had your own fashion line, you feel me? So like I'm gonna let you do this, [INAUDIBLE].

SAWEETIE: OK. This is fitted to the T. They got his measurements perfect.

LAJETHRO JENKINS: You could see his chest coming out that thing, you feel me, like--

SAWEETIE: OK. I'm not as brave.

LAJETHRO JENKINS: That man looks soggy to me, though. Lookin' real soggy, Andy. Very wet, that's what he looks, bro. He looks stressed out, man.

SAWEETIE: My papa got one of them button ups. That's a classic-- I feel like every old man needs the staple in their closet. So I'm not mad at him. My papa be wearing that.

What is those things popping out the side?

LAJETHRO JENKINS: I think those are headphones.

SAWEETIE: Oh, they're headphones.

LAJETHRO JENKINS: Yeah. Yeah.

SAWEETIE: We need to get-- need to get my man some wireless.

LAJETHRO JENKINS: That in-ear set. No, the turtleneck is cool, man. I'm not a turtleneck dude, but I do appreciate a nice turtleneck, you feel me?

SAWEETIE: Looks like James Bond. He ready to go out there and assassinate [INAUDIBLE] I ain't mad at it. [INAUDIBLE] stay with it, OK?

LAJETHRO JENKINS: You feel me. You feel me.

All right, Saweetie, appreciate you. I know you poppin, I know you busy. You know what I mean?

SAWEETIE: I feel positive, too. So thank you for y'all time. [INAUDIBLE] y'all.
