Roy Williams announces retirement after 33-year Hall of Fame career

KRYSTEN PEEK: Big news hitting the college coaching scene with Hall of Fame coach, Roy Williams, announcing his retirement after 33 seasons, the last 18 of those being at North Carolina. Williams has 903 career wins, the fourth most in Men's D1 history. And he is the only coach with 400 wins at multiple D1 schools, North Carolina and Kansas. He's a three-time national champion win, with the last title coming in 2017.

He's taken nine trips to the Final Four, and over his 33-year career, he's made the NCAA Tournament 30 times, only really missing two tournaments due to the COVID-19 pandemic last year. A couple of possible replacements are current assistant coach, Hubert Davis, who has been at North Carolina since 2012, and head coach at UNC Greensboro, Wes Miller, who won a national championship at North Carolina in 2005. Roy Williams ends his Hall of Fame career at North Carolina. And it will be interesting to see who comes in to fill his shoes and restart the powerhouse program he built over the years.
