Nvidia reveals new AI offerings, chips at GTC developer conference

Yahoo Finance Live anchors Julie Hyman and Brad Smith discuss key takeaways from Nvidia’s GTC developer conference.

Video transcript

JULIE HYMAN: Nvidia is ramping up its push into artificial intelligence as the company laid out plans at its annual software developer conference, it's called GTC. And it's trying to make supercomputers use to develop AI technologies. I got the chance to talk with Nvidia's Vice President of Enterprise Computing Manuvir Das yesterday. Here's what he had to say on the opportunity for Nvidia and AI.

MANUVIR DAS: Nvidia for years now has worked with companies to adopt a variety of use cases for AI that are specific to their business. But every company has to get bought in. I think what's happened with ChatGPT and generative AI is we have come to the moment there's a broad, horizontal use case that every company, no matter what industry it's in, can see the value of that.

And I think this is what is really going to make the adoption of AI take off. And obviously, Nvidia is very excited to be part of that.

JULIE HYMAN: Nvidia has been talking about AI for a while now. But I think it's interesting that ChatGPT chip has sort of tipped the public consciousness not just in consumer, but also in enterprise and sort of opened the door for companies like Nvidia or like Adobe, who we spoke to yesterday, to then sell some of those products to their clients.

BRAD SMITH: That's exactly what I wrote down-- Adobe, Shutterstock two of those instances where generative AI, especially within images, can serve a massive purpose for the broader marketing clouds and the creative suites that they offer right now. And so for Nvidia and what they're doing with DGX Cloud, layering that into the different data centers that they operate-- and for IBM, which is one of the more historical OGs within artificial intelligence as we had known it, especially in the cybersecurity landscape, there is still a ton that big blue can, perhaps, do to widen their own portfolio or client base given what they have already had and just walking into meetings saying, hey, we've been a categorical leader in this for about two decades now.

So for the newest advancements in technology, I think on the generative AI front of that, it's been interesting to hear about where this will begin to become monetized for Adobe, and Shutterstock, so forth.

JULIE HYMAN: All these companies want a piece, for sure.
