Four-day work week win at major Aussie company good sign for others

According to Medibank, “People are happier, healthier and more productive.”

Video transcript

One of Australia's largest private health insurers, has decided to expand its four day work week trial, claiming the policy has improved staff morale and productivity.

250 Medibank workers were involved in the initial trial and they were operating under a 100% of the pay for 80% of the time model.

The trial is now set to include 500 workers, according to Medibank.

People are happier, healthier and more productive, the company's head of people and sustainability, Kylie Bishop said.

We've seen significant and sustained improvements in employee engagement, job satisfaction and the health and well-being of participants while maintaining business performance and customer outcomes.

Macquarie University professor Rebecca Mitchell said.

If Medibank in all its complexity can do this, then surely all organisations can do this.
