Cougars strike down Syracuse to advance to Elite 8

Yahoo Sports' Krysten Peek recaps Houston's victory over Syracuse en route to their first regional final appearance in 37 years.

Video transcript

KRYSTEN PEEK: The Cinderella magic has run out for Buddy Boeheim and Syracuse Orange. Number two seed Houston shut down number 11 Syracuse 62-46, holding Boeheim to just one 3 pointer the entire game, after he hit 13 3s in the previous two games. Houston closed out the first half with a 10 0 run, and was led by Dejon Jarreau who had 9 points, eight assists, and eight rebounds. Quentin Grimes also added 14 points in the win to advance to the Elite Eight.

Syracuse went seven minutes without a basket in the second half, and shot just 28% from the field, and 22% from three. Going just 5 for 23 for the game. This will be Houston's first Elite Eight appearance since 1984, and the Five Slamma Jamma days. The Cougars will face number 12 seed, Oregon State, on Monday night. They're the first team ever to face four double digit seeds in all four rounds of the tournament. This will only be the third time these two teams have played each other in school history, with Oregon State winning both games by 4 points or less.
