Baylor dismantles Houston en route to first National Championship Game since 1948

Yahoo Sports College reporter Pete Thamel takes you through Baylor’s total domination of Houston in the Final Four, and previews what you can expect in the Bears first National Championship Game appearance since 1948.

Video transcript

PETE THAMEL: Baylor will be playing for its first-ever national title on Monday night, and their performance against Houston can simply be summed up by saying, "The Butler did it." Junior guard Jared Butler, first-team All-American, the program's first-ever first-team All-American, broke out of an NCAA Tournament slump by scoring 17 first-half points. Baylor jumped out to a 20-point lead and really never looked back the entire game.

This Final Four Saturday started off with just an appetizer. Baylor crushed Houston, 78-59. The Cougars got field goals from just two players in the first half, shot 27% from the field, and, by the time they retreated to the locker room at halftime, the game was over. Baylor, which was atop the polls all year long, now gets a spot in the national title game on Monday night, as we all expected.

This is Pete Thamel from Yahoo Sports in Indianapolis.
