Apple's newest iPhone is set to drop this week and here to give us a hands on Look at the newest features is Yahoo Finance's senior Tech editor, Dan Halley.
That's right, Josh.
We have the iPhone pro and we have the iPhone.
Plus, this is the 16.
Both of them sixteens.
Uh, let me just walk you through some of the the big features, right?
So the the main I think to do about these particular phones is the the new camera button.
You can come.
I see it right where my thumb is.
Here.
Uh, there's one over here on the 16.
Plus, uh, essentially, what that's gonna be able to do and I'll show you on the pro is you'll be able to just press this button, fire up the camera, and then, if you want, you can zoom in on different things so you can do, for instance, let's say that's the Y.
You can double tap and then bring up this menu here, slide through this menu.
Uh, let's see.
We'll pick the zoom and then you can slide go back and forth through different zoom levels.
The idea here is sure you can do that, uh, on the regular camera by going like this, But to do that, you have to get your hands on the screen.
Uh, you also kind of throw yourself off of the the, uh, subject.
So this is supposed to be a way of being able to do that.
It's also a way to sell phones because it's a different feature.
Uh, and people tend to like that.
Uh, there's a co couple of cool things in that, uh, in that there's, uh, some new kind of, uh, styles that they use, Uh, in these photos, I think that that's something that's gonna appeal to a lot of people.
Uh, my wife was actually playing around with it, and she had some, uh, great shots already.
Uh, I've just been taking pictures of cats, um, and so you don't really get very stylized photos, except my cats are very photogenic.
Uh, so I do.
Um, the other thing to to talk about with these phones is they're coming with the new A 18 chip, the regular iPhone, plus, uh, 16 plus and 16 have the A 18.
The pros have the A 18 pro, and they basically say that because, uh, this is able to run more, uh, basically the heavy duty apps than the 16.
It's not, though, as though you're gonna be able to not run apps on the 16 Pro or on the 16 that you would on the 16 Pro.
But again, it's kind of an Upsell.
You're gonna wanna get the pro because it's sounds better and it's faster.
So why wouldn't you get it and pay more for for the pro?
Uh, one other thing that I I wanna point out, uh, for these new phones is the pros are actually getting a larger screen instead of 6.1 inches.
Uh, they're gonna get 6.3 inches, and instead instead of 6.7 they're gonna get 6.9.
The bodies are a little bit bigger.
Uh, but the way they really do that is kind of by cutting down on the the size of the, uh, uh, bezel so you can see the bezel here, uh, on the 16 of bezel here on the 16 pro.
It's thinner, uh, on the pro overall.
I mean, look, if you have a 15 pro or a 15 or or a 14 It's not time to upgrade with these.
The the battery life, by the way, is great.
Uh, the I mean, you're gonna go all day with these batteries.
So if that's a problem for your current phone, go ahead and upgrade with these the cameras.
Fantastic.
But that's kind of a given.
When, when it comes to the newest phones, I think if you're running, uh, you know, 1514, anything below that.
These are a great upgrade.
Let me ask you, uh, big selling point.
Uh, the new A. I features.
Right.
Do you believe those features?
Consumers are gonna think Wow.
You know, shock and awe.
Gotta have that.
Or is it more is gonna prove to be more incremental to the user experience?
How do you think about it?
It's gonna be more incremental.
Uh, you know, the the thing about these phones right now is if you go to the store and you buy one, you're not getting apple intelligence right away.
They're gonna roll that out next month.
Uh, and then across next year, you're gonna get them.
So, uh, I think you know, out of the gate, there's gonna be a few features that are good.
There's gonna be a better Siri.
Uh, basically, if you have any problems with your phone, you can say, Hey, how do I do this?
And Siri will literally show you a step by step, uh, kind of, uh, bullet pointed list of what you have to do to take care of that.
That's gonna be great.
Uh, I was just helping my parents with something on their phones Would have been awesome to have them just say, How do I do this?
The other thing is, Siri is gonna be able to, uh, respond better when you interrupt it.
So say, I let me set an A Siri set an alarm for 20.
I mean, 25 minutes, it's gonna pick up that you meant 25 minutes.
The the other kind of features are, uh, summarising texts.
So it'll be able to summarise text messages better.
That is, is kind of hit or miss sometimes.
Um, I was using it with the beta earlier, but again, it's a beta.
So we'll see what happens with the full release.
Uh, and then the other is writing tools where it basically, uh, can kind of gussy up your writing, uh, make it sound more professional.
Make it sound more fun.
Uh, and also summarise longer emails.
So all of that's gonna be coming, though.
Just not right now.
All right.
Big day Friday hits the store shelves.
Dan.
Thank you.
