Ring doorbell camera captures rare moment moose shed its antlers: 'Once in a life time opportunity'

A Ring camera captured the stunning moment a moose shed its antlers.

TikToker @akfattruck shared footage captured from his brother and sister-in-law’s doorbell camera. Moose are the largest members of the deer family, weighing over 1,000 pounds and standing 6 feet tall.

A male moose’s antlers can span 6 feet from end to end. So, spotting a massive moose is already no joke but capturing one shedding its antlers is even rarer.

The Ring clip showed the moose standing in front of the home’s snow-covered lawn. It wiggled its head a bit — then suddenly, the antlers fell off, and it scurried several feet away.

“Been in Alaska 30 years and never seen them just drop from a head shake!” the TikToker wrote in a comment.

He added that they retrieved the antlers to dry and mount in the home.

The video received 2.7 million likes and over 20 million views on TikTok.

“Not me thinking they lived their whole life with the same antlers,” a user wrote.

“When I read shed I was thinking like molt. I didn’t realize they just took em completely off like a wig,” another said.

“That’s a once in a life time opportunity,” a person added.

If you’re wondering why moose shed their antlers, too it’s literally to drop the extra weight. Only male members have antlers that can weigh up to 60 pounds. According to National Geographic, the males shed their antlers to store more energy during the cold season.
