Netflix is set to report first-quarter earnings after market close on Tuesday, with Wall Street bracing for a slowdown in subscriber growth following a record-setting year.

US stock markets were heading for the first back-to-back slide in three weeks as investors cashed in on bets made ahead of what is shaping up to be a bonanza quarterly earnings season. Wall Street’s blue-chip S&P 500 index, which hit a record high last week, dropped 0.3 per cent in early dealings while the technology-focused Nasdaq Composite fell 0.2 per cent. Blue-chip US corporations are expected to report quarterly earnings growth of around 25 per cent year on year on the back of a strong economic recovery from coronavirus, with Coca-Cola and IBM having topped analysts’ earnings estimates on Monday.
