The best cars of 2016, according to Consumer Reports

Consumer Reports has released its top picks for cars of the year across 10 different categories.

The magazine, which specializes in product reviews and comparisons, came up with the list based on road-test scores, reliability ratings from its 2015 auto survey, owner satisfaction surveys, as well as government and insurance-industry safety tests.

This year’s Top Picks include seven from Japanese brands, two from the U.S. and one from South Korea.
