Yalla Group Limited (NYSE:YALA) Stock Rockets 29% But Many Are Still Ignoring The Company

Those holding Yalla Group Limited (NYSE:YALA) shares would be relieved that the share price has rebounded 29% in the last thirty days, but it needs to keep going to repair the recent damage it has caused to investor portfolios. Still, the 30-day jump doesn't change the fact that longer term shareholders have seen their stock decimated by the 55% share price drop in the last twelve months.

In spite of the firm bounce in price, Yalla Group may still be sending bullish signals at the moment with its price-to-earnings (or "P/E") ratio of 7.4x, since almost half of all companies in the United States have P/E ratios greater than 15x and even P/E's higher than 29x are not unusual. However, the P/E might be low for a reason and it requires further investigation to determine if it's justified.

Yalla Group's earnings growth of late has been pretty similar to most other companies. It might be that many expect the mediocre earnings performance to degrade, which has repressed the P/E. If not, then existing shareholders have reason to be optimistic about the future direction of the share price.

Does Growth Match The Low P/E?

Yalla Group's P/E ratio would be typical for a company that's only expected to deliver limited growth, and importantly, perform worse than the market.

Taking a look back first, we see that the company managed to grow earnings per share by a handy 10% last year. This was backed up an excellent period prior to see EPS up by 156% in total over the last three years. So we can start by confirming that the company has done a great job of growing earnings over that time.

Turning to the outlook, the next year should generate growth of 22% as estimated by the three analysts watching the company. With the market only predicted to deliver 7.4%, the company is positioned for a stronger earnings result.

In light of this, it's peculiar that Yalla Group's P/E sits below the majority of other companies. It looks like most investors are not convinced at all that the company can achieve future growth expectations.

The Bottom Line On Yalla Group's P/E

Yalla Group's stock might have been given a solid boost, but its P/E certainly hasn't reached any great heights. Using the price-to-earnings ratio alone to determine if you should sell your stock isn't sensible, however it can be a practical guide to the company's future prospects.

We've established that Yalla Group currently trades on a much lower than expected P/E since its forecast growth is higher than the wider market. There could be some major unobserved threats to earnings preventing the P/E ratio from matching the positive outlook. At least price risks look to be very low, but investors seem to think future earnings could see a lot of volatility.

And what about other risks? Every company has them, and we've spotted 1 warning sign for Yalla Group you should know about.

Of course, you might also be able to find a better stock than Yalla Group. So you may wish to see this free collection of other companies that sit on P/E's below 20x and have grown earnings strongly.
