Good morning.

Here is everything you need to know in finance this morning.

Utrecht: A gunman who killed three people and wounded at least nine others on a tram in the Dutch city of Utrecht this morning has been arrested. Police are investigating any terror links. Follow the story here.

Markets: Australian shares are set to open higher, with a rise in the iron ore price likely to boost mining companies. Over on Wall Street, the Dow Jones Industrial Average was up 0.12 per cent, the S&P 500 was up 0.29 per cent and the Nasdaq Composite was up 0.28 per cent.

Dollar: The Aussie dollar is buying 71.05 US cents this morning from 71.12 US cents on Monday.

Jobactive: Unemployed Australians have slammed the unemployment service as unhelpful. It comes after a senate committee described the service as “not fit for purpose”.

Apartment prices plummet: Almost half of all new units in Sydney and Melbourne that settled last month were worth less than what they were originally purchased for, which reflects that conditions in Australia’s largest and most expensive housing markets have changed significantly over the past few years.

Get ready for a cash rate cut in APRIL: The data is in and it is compelling. The Australian economy is faltering and the risk is that it will weaken further if nothing is done to address this decline. Without a cash rate cut soon, we’ll be in a lot of economic trouble.

How do fringe benefits tax affect you? Many businesses look to get the best out of their staff by providing benefits and perks over and above their normal salary and wages. Whilst that can be a great way to incentivise staff, there are potentially tax consequences that need to be borne in mind. Find out more here.

Have a great day.
