Worst-paying Aussie jobs, according to the ATO

The highest-paid workers in Australia are surgeons, who bring in a massive $457,281 per year, according to data from the Australian Taxation Office (ATO).

But what about the other end of the spectrum? According to ATO data seen by Yahoo Finance, some Aussies are earning just $12,780 per year as assistants in the care-worker industry.

Of more concern is the fact that is the median wage for women, while the median wage for men in the same position is $26,980.

And that shocking trend continues. Next on the list of low-wage jobs was leaflet deliverer, with women earning a median wage of $16,561 and men earning $25,628.

Here are the top 10 lowest-paid jobs for women according to the data:

  1. Care worker, personal carers and assistants - $12,780

  2. Leaflet deliverer - $16,561

  3. Fast food cook - $19,406

  4. Actor, dancer or other entertainer - $21,389

  5. Blacksmith - $21,707

  6. Crosswalk attendant - $22,661

  7. Apprentice - hospitality - $23,435

  8. Apprentice - food, drink or meat processor - $23,798

  9. Apprentice - farm or garden worker - $24,724

  10. Religious assistant - $25,168

  1. Fast-food cook - $18,531

  2. Administration assistant - $20,188

  3. University tutor - $23,094

  4. Private teacher - $23,143

  5. Actor, dancer or other entertainer - $23,320

  6. Apprentice - sport and recreation - $23,951

  7. Referee - $24,186

  8. Dishwasher - $25,378

  9. Crosswalk attendant - $25,387

  10. Model - $25,576
