Yahoo Finance Woolworths shopper scores over $100 worth of meat for just $12
A Woolworths shopper has shared the incredible bargains she managed to scoop up in store when she picked up numerous trays of meat, some for as little as 57 cents.
Incredibly, the shopper scored $116.70 worth of meat for just $12.77 thanks to some exceptional markdowns at her local Woolies store.
The shopper from Yanchep, a coastal suburb in Perth, said she was shocked to save over $100 on her grocery haul.
“Bargains to be had at Woolies Yanchep,” she wrote on the Markdown Addicts Australia Facebook page.
“I got $116.70 worth of stuff for $12.77. Nice little $103.93 saving.”
Her markdown bargains included two packs of chicken lovely legs for 57 cents and 58 cents, three packs of sweet chilli chicken strips for 83 cents and two whole chickens for $1.86 and $2.27.
She also scored marinated beef strips for $1.20 which usually retail for $12, as well as tuna steaks for $2.20. She finished off her haul with two 80-cent Artisan pizzas.
Fellow bargain shoppers were stunned with her super savings.
“Oh wow,” one person commented, with another adding: “Now that's a haul!”
Cole's shopper bags bargains too
The Perth shopper wasn't the only one who picked up unheard-of bargains this week.
A Coles shopper was also lucky enough to score a trolley full of discounted meat products.
She took to social media to explain how she bagged 10 packs of marked-down meat, chicken and sausages for the bargain price of $24.68.
“Finally scored some bargains. Very few and far between at our Coles,” she said on the Markdown Addicts Australia Facebook Page.
She added that she would usually leave some discounted items for others, however, a Coles staff member told her to take as much as she liked.
“Wasn’t going to take all the lamb, but the Coles lady encouraged me to, so who am I to argue!” she said.
Among her bargain buys were six packs of boneless lamb roasts ranging from $2.13 to $2.99, half a kilo of chuck casserole steak for $1.91, two packets of chicken for $1.90 and $3.63 and a packet of pork sausages for $1.40.
What's the best time to score markdowns?
While some shoppers can nab an exceptional markdown, others have said they've never seen such savings in store.
A supermarket employee previously revealed the best time to shop to score the most markdowns.
The Woolworths employee responded to a post on Facebook budgeting group Retail Reductions Australia, sharing exactly when prices on particular items are reduced.
She revealed that different items get reduced at different times of the day.
“I work at Woolworths and I do bread markdowns at 7pm every night,” she explained.
“I also do produce, meat and dairy. But they also do markdowns in the morning as well, not sure what time because I work night shifts.
“There’s also a possibility that other stores do it at different times of the day.”
Another employee said markdowns across her store happen at 11am every day.
However, a third supermarket employee said her store has no set time and it's simply a matter of being at the right place at the right time.
“I work at a major supermarket, there is no set time,” one employee said.
“I see people with these awesome markdowns, comment on what a bargain they’ve got and good on them.
“It’s pretty much pot luck with markdowns.”
