Woman taken aback by sister-in-law’s ‘insane’ financial request: ‘Surely she isn’t serious’

A woman doesn’t want to pay her sister-in-law (SIL) for babysitting her son but isn’t sure if it’s the right move.

She explained how they got into the fight over money on Reddit’s “Am I the A******” forum. The sister-in-law volunteered to take her 3-year-old to the mall, out of the blue. The Reddit poster didn’t ask her to go on the trip with her son, which is why she was shocked that a few days later, the sister-in-law expected payment.

“About three weeks ago, my SIL said she was going to the mall and asked if our three-year-old wanted to go,” the Reddit poster explained. “I said yes and she picked him up on her way. They were gone for about 1.5 hours and my son came back with his hair cut (which I did not give the OK to). Her reasoning is that she heard my partner and I talking about our son’s hair getting too long, she thinks it was a favor to us. Pissed me off, but that’s not the problem here.”

Then three weeks, later the sister-in-law started to text the Reddit poster for compensation.

“Out of the blue, she was texting me telling me I owe her money for ‘babysitting’ despite there being no implication of her taking him out being a paid job, more that she wanted to spend time with her nephew. She wants $40 for babysitting, plus $10 for the haircut. She then said an alternative to money would be dropping food and beer to her house (we are in a lockdown). Now she’s blowing up my phone with ‘you owe me,'” the Reddit poster said.

Reddit users sided with the mom.

“It’s insane she is asking for babysitting money!” one person commented.

“Surely she isn’t serious,” another wrote.

“The gall to ask for money after giving the son a haircut!” someone said.
