Yahoo Finance Woman is furious when mom picks stepdaughter’s wedding over granddaughter’s birthday party
A woman is furious with her family for choosing her stepsister’s wedding over her daughter’s first birthday.
She asked Reddit’s “Am I the A******? (AITA)” forum to weigh in. Years ago, her mother remarried after her divorce. The Reddit poster went to live with her father because she felt like her new stepsister was replacing her.
“I did not want anything to do with a new sibling and had pretty much no relationship with her and hated that my mom treated her like a daughter. I wasn’t the nicest to her but I felt like she was taking my place,” she wrote.
The issue is that after finding out her stepsister’s wedding date, she scheduled her daughter’s first birthday party on the same day. She isn’t invited to her stepsister’s wedding and understands why. However, she is upset that the entire side of her mother’s family won’t go to her daughter’s birthday party.
“Everyone is picking this girl who isn’t even really family over my daughter,” she explained. “My mom says to just change the party but I think it’s ridiculous they can’t do both and won’t change my schedule for my step sister.”
Redditors thought the poster was wrong about this one.
“Your daughter will not suffer because her family isn’t present,” a user wrote.
“You’re trying to play the victim here when this is all under your control,” another said.
“You’ve chosen to have a contentious relationship with your step sister and now you’re letting it impact the rest of your family. You created this situation,” someone added.
