Woman alleges Visa gift card from CVS was a ‘scam’: ‘Too much fraud going on with those cards’

A woman claimed that after she was allegedly scammed by a CVS Visa gift card. CVS then accused her of being the scammer.

TikToker @lovem_or_losem alleged that when she placed $100 on a Visa Vanilla gift card, it wouldn’t swipe at the grocery store. When she went back to the CVS where she bought it, she claimed the manager refused to help her. Now she’s struggling to get her money back.

She purchased three Visa gift cards — two as gifts and one for herself so she wouldn’t go over budget buying supplies. But when she went to checkout at a grocery store, she claimed the card wouldn’t swipe.

Later @lovem_or_losem noticed that four of the numbers on the card and the CVV code had been scratched off. She said she was unable to use customer service over the phone because the automated system required entering the missing numbers.

When she went back to the CVS where she bought it from, with receipts in hand, she couldn’t believe the manager’s response. She alleged that the manager opened every single Visa Vanilla gift card.

He then told her all of the opened gift cards were fine. The manager said the store had issues with people removing the numbers with nail polish remover, “and then we’re out the money.”

“I’m sorry, did you just imply that I’m trying to scam you,” @lovem_or_losem said in the video.

While she still hasn’t gotten a refund, she explained in the comments that Visa’s customer service escalated the issue after seeing her TikTok.

“You have proof u put 100$ on it so why would you scam them to get your 100$ back?” a user wrote.

“Sadly there is nothing CVS can do anyways! Once the card is sold it’s out of their hands,” another added.

“I stopped buying gift cards for this reason. Too much fraud going on with those cards,” a person commented.

“This has happened to me so many times with vanilla gift cards!!” a TikToker replied.

“Our son had the same thing happen when he used his birthday cash to buy a gift card for online purchases,” someone said.
