Wolf of Wolfsburg? DiCaprio plans VW movie

Leonardo DiCaprio is keen to take the drama unfolding around Volkswagen (XETRA:VOW3-DE)'s emissions scandal to the silver screen, according to media reports.

DiCaprio's production company Appian Way and Paramount Pictures have acquired rights to a book proposal by New York Times journalist Jack Ewing. The book will focus on how a "more, better, faster" philosophy fueled one of the greatest scams in corporate history, the Hollywood Reporter has reported.

Volkswagen, which achieved a long-time ambition on the first half when it overtook Toyota (Tokyo Stock Exchange: 7203.T-JP) as the world's the biggest car maker by sales, has been reeling since its admission in September that it cheated on U.S. tests of emissions on its diesel vehicles.

Volkswagen's newly appointed chairman Hans Dieter Poetsch has warned that VW faced "an existence-threatening crisis."
