WNBA's Renee Montgomery joins Marshawn Lynch ownership group in football startup featuring Johnny Manziel

Marshawn Lynch has a new partner in his next football venture.

Renee Montgomery of the WNBA’s Atlanta Dream is joining Lynch’s ownership group in the startup Fan-Controlled Football League (FCF). The team is appropriately named Beasts and is scheduled to play in Atlanta alongside the league’s other three teams.

Montgomery announced the new to TMZ on Monday.

“I’m the first woman to be an owner on there, and they were very into that,” Montgomery said of the FCF. “They wanted a woman football owner.”

Other members of league ownership include San Francisco 49ers cornerback Richard Sherman, Los Angeles Chargers running back Austin Ekeler and rapper Quavo.

Johnny Manziel slated to play in FCF

Former Heisman Trophy winner and NFL, CFL and AAF quarterback Johnny Manziel announced last week that he’s joining the FCF to play for the Zappers, a team co-owned by New York Mets pitcher Trevor May.

The league is scheduled to kick off in February and feature 7-on-7 football played on a 50-by-25 yard field with 10-yard end zones. Per the name, fans will have voting control over elements of the league from designing logos to building lineups to play-calling. The six-week schedule is slated to live-stream on Twitch.

Montgomery has played 13 seasons in the WNBA. She sat out last season to focus on social justice reform.
