'Wild animals': Groom blasted for text offering bridesmaids as payment

·3-min read

A groom has been slammed after it was revealed he offered a musician “bridesmaids” in exchange for performing at his wedding – referring to them as "wild animals".

Jamie Mathias, 28, a singer and songwriter from Brighton in the UK, shared the text messages between himself and the groom on Facebook.

The indecent proposal occurred after Jamie contacted the husband-to-be to say he was offering a 50 per cent discount on his bespoke personal song services.

The anonymous groom wrote back praising the singer, telling him he had a “talent” for writing the unique tunes.

However, before Jamie could pencil the wedding date in his diary, the groom continued: “I’m gonna be straight with ya lad.

"I know it’s worth every penny but we’re in a pandemic and I got back in touch to see if you’ll do this one song as a favour.

“Lilly loves ya and I’ll get massive brownie points.

"And if ya fancy coming to perform it I’ll take care of ya, bit of grub and a couple of beers and I’ll put in a good word with the bridesmaids I’m sure lockdown’s got them like wild animals.”

The singer, who often shares rude requests from couple's on his Facebook, was less than impressed.

“When he suggested paying me with bridesmaids I didn’t know whether to be outraged or laugh,” Jamie told Jam Press.

“Sometimes you have to admire people trying to chance their luck but pimping your bridesmaids is probably taking things too far!”

Jamie replied pointing out that the pandemic had impacted his business as well, and he would need payment to perform.

When Jamie pointed out if it was important to the bride, he should really pay him for his services rather than offer up "thirsty bridesmaids", the groom appeared to get nasty telling him he was “taking the piss” and not to be “ungrateful”.

“I actually frequently get people who don’t seem to appreciate that this is my job and that people’s time costs money," Jamie said.

Since sharing photos of the text exchange online, the wedding singer has been inundated with people slamming the groom.

“I can’t believe people have the cheek to say that,” wrote one follower.

“Bloody chancer... if his soon to be wife means that much then bloody pay for your service.. he think the pandemic has only effected him. If only all things in life came for free! [sic]” added another.

“Name and shame this dude! Watch the bridal party walk out! Pimping off the bridesmaids,” raged a third person.

Jamie added: “The response has been mixed but none have really been in support of the potential customer.

“Some people found his audacity entertaining and other people disgusted that he feels like his bridesmaids are objects.”
