As far as wearable technology goes, Whoop rises above the rest for those serious about monitoring health and performance

Between traveling, firing off emails on the go and listening to the same 20-30 songs daily, we've become a society reliant on technology. While some may argue its advantageous to "hang up and hang out" from time to time, there are certain devices that help you adapt to permanent lifestyle changes the more you use them.

Human performance company Whoop is a fitting example of wearable technology that serves a complete purpose. For those struggling to get a good night's rest, it records how much sleep you get and offers personalized suggestions on when to doze off based on daily activities performed. On their website, Whoop claims users on average slept an 41 extra minutes per night and 79% consumed less alcohol before bedtime.

Others interested in measuring continued progress after a strenuous workout might appreciate the recovery function, which provides a detailed look into how your body is adapting to things like stress, work, nutrition, training, and more.

Co-founded by former Division 1 athlete Will Ahmed and his fellow Harvard classmates, the mission behind Whoop is simple: "To unlock human performance. We believe every individual has an inner potential that you can tap into if you can better understand your body and your behaviors," Ahmed said in May 2020 on the Whoop podcast. "We’ve built technology across hardware, software and analytics designed to continuously understand you."

The idea behind Whoop is simple. For $30 a month (or $18 per month with an 18-month commitment), you receive the brand's Strap 3.0, which includes the battery pack. Not only are the ProKnit bands insanely soft, but they come in a rainbow of colors—perfect for mixing and matching for everyday wear.

After connecting the strap via bluetooth, the next step is downloading the corresponding mobile application. The first thing you notice about Whoop's interface is just how clean and crisp it looks. Graphs are color-coded with accurate descriptions, numbers are measured down to the minute and most importantly, the results are instant and pictorial.

Whoop is all about minuscule changes that add up to a larger impact, which is perhaps why it is so beloved by professional athletes and serious workout enthusiasts. Ahead of the 2020 season, Whoop partnered with the NFL Players Association to outfit each active athlete with their own strap. Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes was one of the early endorsers of the device, and is now an official investor with the startup.

Earlier this month, Whoop became the official wearable of CrossFit after inking a multiyear deal with the popular workout. With this partnership, CrossFit will develop several co-branded events over time, diving into serious storytelling highlighting health and fitness. Also expect CrossFit to use Whoop's insights for educational purposes, using sleep and recovery content for beginners all the way to the experienced.

As if their reach couldn't be wider, Whoop also recently teamed up with the United States Army on a study that according to the release, will "provide more insight about individual physiology and the impact of training in an extreme environment, paratroopers and squad leaders, will be better equipped and ultimately have higher readiness in the field."

If you are between 10% and 30% of adults that struggle with chronic insomnia or just interested in receiving a more complete assessment of your physical health, Whoop is the best product on the market for those needs. Efficient and powerful, there's no time like the present to take full control of your mental and physical health.
