Westpac customers left ‘frustrated’ after being hit with another outage

Westpac services are returning to normal, following an outage that impacted online, mobile and telephone banking for customers.

Westpac banking services are returning to normal after an outage left thousands of customers in the lurch, with some unable to pay for their groceries.

More than 2,000 customers reported Westpac’s services as being down as of 11:30am on Tuesday, according to Down Detector. It’s the second time in two weeks that Westpac has experienced an outage.

Some customers said they were not able to log into their online banking, while others said the outage meant their bank account balance was displaying as zero. The outage also impacted Westpac's subsidiaries St.George, Bank of Melbourne and BankSA.

"Our mobile and online banking services are returning to normal. Some customers may continue to experience intermittent issues."

Earlier this month, customers faced an eight-hour overnight outage following a “technology update”.

Customers also reported their accounts vanishing or their balances displaying as zero during the earlier outage.

“This is soooooo frustrating at the worse [sic] time of year, so inconvenient to so many customers who rely heavily on there [sic] daily banking,” one customer wrote.

“Yup got stuck at Woolworths because I couldn't transfer my money. Thankfully, I have another savings account I could access, but now I won't get my monthly interest. Annoying,” another said.

“Meanwhile, I can't pay for my food. Thanks a bunch,” another wrote.

“Frustrating! Especially when trying to do final pays for people before Christmas, pay invoices and pay myself!” wrote another.
