Wes Anderson has designed a luxury Belmond British Pullman train carriage to celebrate the release of his latest film, The French Dispatch.
The director, known for his trendsetting strand of whimsical art-deco vintage, has picked pastel pink ceilings, greens of every shade and rich marquetry for the 1950s-built carriage.
Speaking at the launch, Anderson said he was, “very eager to make something new while also participating in the process of preservation which accompanies all the classic Belmond train projects.”
Drawing on his famous aesthetic, the bespoke Cygnus carriage - which was once reserved for exclusive use by visiting heads of state - has a swan theme with delicate swan-shaped champagne coolers offset against clashing prints and the sharp lines of art deco mirrors and wingback chairs.
In honour of Anderson’s middle name, Wales, the Belmond’s British Pullman’s first trip started out last week from London’s Victoria Station to Cardiff, but will be available on any Pullman journey across the country.
