Rivals Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid came together to honor Kobe Bryant before Saturday’s match, standing around the center circle in a moment of silence at the Bernabéu.

Real Madrid won 1-0 on a Karim Benzema goal in the 56th minute.

Bryant died last Sunday in a helicopter crash that also took the life of his daughter Gianna and seven others.

Via beIN SPORTS:

The NBA icon was a huge soccer fan, and AC Milan, his favorite club growing up, honored his memory this week along with Neymar and many other players and teams around the soccer world.

The first half of Saturday’s Madrid derby finished scoreless, as did the previous La Liga meeting in September and the Spanish Super Cup final between the two clubs on Jan. 12.

Benzema broke the tie after Vinícius Júnior slipped Ferland Mendy down the left, whose whipping ball found the feet of the French striker:

Real Madrid is now six points clear atop La Liga, with Barcelona playing Levante on Sunday, while Atleti stays in fifth.

Neither Eden Hazard nor Gareth Bale, who stayed put on Deadline Day, were selected for Real Madrid’s matchday squad. Hazard is still working his way back from an ankle injury.
