Viola Davis Only Wore Heels as Long as She Had to at the Oscars

Viola Davis isn’t blinded by the glamour and the flashing bulbs at major events like the Oscars. “Right now, I see the red carpet as a challenge in remaining my authentic self and trying the best I can to enjoy it and get through it,” the Academy Award winner told Yahoo Style. “It’s pretty daunting. If I feel like I have to alter who I am, that makes me uncomfortable. That doesn’t work for me.”

One of the ways she apparently stays true to herself while wearing a custom off-the-shoulder Armani gown and being primped and prepped from head to toe is by not wearing high heels any longer than is absolutely necessary.

While the Best Actress in a Supporting Role posed for pictures at first wearing red Stuart Weitzman platform pumps, she quickly switched into shoes that wouldn’t give her blisters.

Davis’s stylist, Elizabeth Stewart, posted a photo of Davis backstage with another shoe option the star packed for the night.

Live from backstage! The incomparable @violadavis after her OSCAR WIN! With brilliant team member @jennybrunt1 backstage at the ready with @yrushoes platforms for comfort. Thanks @stuartweitzman for carrying Viola to the win!” she captioned the image.

Then, she switched things up again for the Vanity Fair Oscar party. Changing out of her bright red gown, she put on a sleek white pantsuit with fun — yet glamorous — platforms. The option she picked for the star-studded gathering? Stella McCartney’s gold ‘Elyse’ brogues.

Comfort, for Davis, obviously is key.
