Vanderbilt’s Sarah Fuller to take part in Joe Biden's presidential inauguration

The historic season of Vanderbilt’s Sarah Fuller added a new highlight on Sunday.

Fuller announced on Twitter that she’s taking part in President-elect Joe Biden’s presidential inauguration on Wednesday, calling it “an honor to be invited to participate in one of America’s great traditions.”

She’s expected to speak during the inauguration of Vice President-elect Kamala Harris, who will become the first female vice president in American history. Fuller taped a video for the inauguration last week at Vanderbilt’s football stadium.

“This historic inauguration is especially meaningful for American women and girls,” Fuller said on Twitter. “The glass ceilings are breaking and it is the time to #LeadLikeAWoman.”

Fuller became the first female kicker to participate and score a point in a Power 5 college football game this past season. Fuller is the starting goalie for Vanderbilt’s women’s soccer team, and she got called into action after COVID-19 issues wiped out Vanderbilt’s specialists.

She executed a squib kick in Vanderbilt’s game against Missouri and kicked two extra points in a loss to Tennessee. The moments transcended sport, as she became arguably the most known player in the sport this season. Her story transcended college football fans, and she received praise everywhere from LeBron James to Mia Hamm to thousands of young girls.

Fuller embraced her sudden fame and becoming a role model to countless young girls. She told Yahoo Sports this past fall: “I love that so much, it’s so amazing. When I went to a college game or watched older girls growing up, I felt the same way and looked up to them. Now being a college athlete and being that inspiration is really cool.”

Now Fuller’s story rises to the largest imaginable stage, as there will be tens of millions of eyeballs on Wednesday’s inauguration.
