Yahoo Finance Unexpected detail emerges after teen and family kidnapped
An unexpected detail has emerged after a teenage girl and her family were kidnapped at gunpoint from outside their home.
Nicole Martinez and her parents were kidnapped at 12.30am on Sunday from their home in Pembroke Pines in the US state of Florida.
Police said in a press release the suspect, Jaddier T. Sanchez, 37, forced 18-year-old Nicole and her family into a red pick-up truck owned by the teen’s parents.
After driving them to various ATMS to withdraw cash, Sanchez allegedly dumped the parents on the side of the road just hours later while a desperate search continued for a missing Nicole.
On Monday, police said in a statement they found Nicole with Sanchez in the US state of Virginia and the suspect was taken into custody while the teen was taken to hospital with minor injuries.
In an unexpected twist however, police told the South Florida Sun Sentinel they now believe the pair “shared a romantic relationship”.
Police said initially Nicole was being held against her will and the suspect was considered armed and dangerous.
The Sun Sentinel reported attempts to reach Nicole had been unsuccessful.
The newspaper obtained records from the Florida Department of Corrections and reported that Sanchez was released from prison in May 2020 after serving 15 years for armed robbery with a deadly weapon.
The Sentinel reported he also served another sentence for burglary and aggravated stalking.
