A further 7,673 Covid-19 infections and ten deaths were announced on Tuesday as the government revealed that more than 30 million people are now fully vaccinated.

The UK has now reported more than 7,000 daily cases for the seventh day in a row.

The figures compare with 7,742 cases and three fatalities announced on Monday.

Some 6,048 cases and 13 deaths were recorded this time last week.

The Department of Health and Social Care said that 57.3 per cent of UK adults (30,204,738 million people) have had had their second dose while almost four in five (79.4 per cent) have received one dose.

The vaccines offer most protection after a person has received both doses.
