Man shocked after allegedly making ‘disgusting’ discovery in his box of cereal: ‘I wish this was not real’

A Twitter user has thrown the internet into disarray after allegedly finding shrimp tails in his cereal box.

Jensen Karp, a writer, comedian and podcast host based in Los Angeles, shared the alleged experience on March 22. It all started with a box of Cinnamon Toast Crunch.

“Ummmm @CTCSquares – why are there shrimp tails in my cereal? (This is not a bit),” Karp tweeted, tagging the official Cinnamon Toast Crunch Twitter account.

What followed was a photo Karp claimed he’d taken immediately after opening his cereal. Among the sugary squares of cinnamon goodness, there appeared to be a few bizarre objects.

The image, which Karp followed up with more alleged evidence, drew an immediately strong reaction online. Twitter users called the alleged incident “gross” and “unbelievable.”

“WHAAAAT? That’s disgusting,” one commenter wrote.

“I hope this is not real,” another added.

Karp’s tweet went so viral that even celebrities — everyone from Seth Rogen to celebrity chef Duff Goldman — decided to weigh in.

“Shrimp tails are delicious when crispy. I don’t see what there is to complain about here,” Goldman joked.

Somehow, though, the saga only got weirder from there. Karp’s claim quickly caught the attention of the Cinnamon Toast Crunch Twitter account, which asked him to message them with more details. Shortly after, the cereal brand then responded with another tweet, telling Karp that “after further investigation” the company had concluded he did not receive shrimp tails in his cereal.

“It appears to be an accumulation of the cinnamon sugar that sometimes can occur when ingredients aren’t thoroughly blended,” the tweet said, in part. “We assure you that there’s no possibility of cross-contamination with shrimp.”

Karp, however, stood by his claim. The writer followed up with even more alleged photos from his cereal box, which claimed to show other contaminants, too.

Karp speculated that he also found dental floss and some pieces of cereal with strange, black marks on them. Other Twitter users said that the marks could potentially be bugs or maggots.

Meanwhile, Karp continued sharing his correspondence with the Cinnamon Toast Crunch Twitter account. The brand allegedly even asked him to send the cereal into its offices for further inspection.

“Should I take MY shrimp tail to a lab? I’m all-in,” Karp joked.

Jokes continued to abound online, and Karp seemed to take it all in stride. After hours of chaos, the writer shared a photo of the current status of his cereal box. It sums up the saga pretty well.
