The salary of the founder behind Twitter and mobile payments company Square, Jack Dorsey, has been revealed – and it’s a lot less than might be expected for a billionaire entrepreneur.

According to a filing with the US Securities and Exchange Commission, Dorsey pocketed just US$1.40 (AU$1.96) in his first salary since he returned as company CEO in 2015.

Dorsey, worth an estimated AU$7.4 billion, declined all payments for the three previous years as a testament to his belief in Twitter’s value, the company stated.

He had been ousted from the job years earlier amid claims he was leaving work early and prioritising other pursuits like fashion design and yoga.

The salary, revealed this week, is a nod to Twitter’s former English-language character limit of 140, which in 2017 was increased to 280.
