Streamer’s ‘Star Wars’ explainer leaves Twitch in awe

A streamer who made a hilarious takedown on the Star Wars sequels had Twitch in stitches.

William “WillNeff” Neff is a variety streamer best known for his collaborations with Hasan and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez. During a stream, Will explained the plotline of the deeply divisive Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker in an impassioned rant.

“The planes were sleeping on an island, or a planet,” Will said on his stream, describing Emperor Palpatine’s Final Order fleet. “What planet? The Sith one. Okay, where’s that? I don’t know they had to have some kind of beacon — that’s the journey! No one knows where this planet is, even though it’s the largest army in history. No one knows where this thing is ha ha ha ha!”

Will then speculated how J. J. Abrams and Disney executives discussed the end of the Skywalker Saga.

“But the emperor is invincible,” Will continued. “He can’t die. How does he die? How do they kill him? How does Rey beat him? How does Rey– (gasp) Friendship. And Disney went what the ‘F*** did you just say?’ And he [J. J. Abrams] went, ‘They kill him with friendship.’”

“Holy s***!” Will exclaimed after slowly backpedaling on his chair with his mouth agape.

The clip, which was posted on /r/LivestreamFail, was met with an outpouring of agreement.

“Based af take, f*** the sequels,” one commenter said.

“Let’s pretend the new trilogy doesn’t exist and just enjoy The Mandalorian,” another commenter suggested.

“This is gold,” yet another Reddit commenter wrote. “It really summarizes that f****** joke of a trilogy…”

The latest Star Wars trilogy was divisive to say the least. While Star Wars: The Force Awakens was universally loved after its release, fans and critics were deeply split on both Star Wars: The Last Jedi and Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker.

One of the largest overall complaints was the suspension of disbelief that Will referenced on his stream. Of course, Star Wars is more akin to a fantasy series in space than a sci-fi series. Any viewer who goes into Star Wars expecting logic to prevail is in for a bad time. But even then, the new trilogy’s incoherent story and characterizations were too much for some fans.

And that included the actual actors. Mark Hamill expressed disappointment over how Luke, Leia and Han never got a reunion scene which felt like a giant middle finger to long-time fans. John Boyega has openly criticized Disney and accused it of conceding to the racist parts of the Star Wars fandom who wanted to see Black characters “pushed to the side.”

Fortunately, there’s at least one thing that all Star Wars fans can agree on: Grogu (AKA Baby Yoda) is super cute.
