On this episode of Teach Me How, stylist and color enthusiast, Yolande Macon (@thelanguageofyolande) shares her simple fashion tips and tricks that can help transition the NYDJ Classic Knit Blazer from day to night with very little effort.
Yolande is a full-time fashion and lifestyle content creator, and the host of Let’s Do Lunch, which is a dinner series dedicated to celebrating Black women through community and food. The dinners feature 3-course meals, glamorous dress codes, as well as various table topics to discuss. In other words, Yolande is an expert when it comes to elevating a day look to be night glam ready.
Yolande’s first blazer tip involves the humble safety pin. During the day, Yolande recommends fastening a blazer opening with a safety pin to hold it together. But come night, remove the pin to open up the blazer for a look that is a little more revealing.
The fashionista also shares that bold accessories can make all the difference when taking a classic blazer look from day to night. For her day look, Yolande wears a “cool” stack of gold earrings, and then for nighttime she pops in some bright blue “jazzy” textured earrings to make more of a statement.
“You literally just went to work and now you’re standing out in this cool outfit because you just had two little tricks: a safety pin and some cool earrings,” Yolande affirms.
Yolande’s other trick involves playing with proportions. She mentions that wearing a cropped blazer with a long button-down underneath for a day look, and then pairing it with a cropped shirt or no shirt for nighttime is a great way to bring a blazer from day to night. Or, one could do the inverse, and pair an oversized blazer with some knee-high boots to make it look more like a dress.
With these blazer tips and tricks, you’ll be a fashion trailblazer in no time.
