Tristan Mack Wilds starred in Shots Fired, 90210 and The Wire. The actor and rapper wed his high school sweetheart this year after becoming a father in 2020.

And just like for everyone else, the pandemic was a lesson in self-care for Wilds. Juggling being a new husband and father, he started a skincare routine for the first time during the lockdown.

“During quarantine, it was a mixture of just nerves from everything that was going on in the world. Being a brand new dad, being a brand new husband. My skin started to break out a lot,” Wilds told In The Know.

When trying to figure out how to address his skin issues he looked for inspiration from rappers like Kanye West and ASAP Rocky.

“I needed to start to figure out ways to keep my skin intact,” he said. “Looking at Pharrell and seeing how well he’s treated his skin throughout the years, and it’s been some time. Pharrell looked 25 for 25 years.”

Here’s Wild’s dermatologist-approved morning skincare routine.

Step 1: Cleanse with Glamderm Glycolic Clarifying Cleanser

“My dermatologist, she created this Glamderm glycolic clarifying cleanser,” Wilds said.

Instead of immediately washing it off, at his esthetician’s advice he let the cleanser sit on his face for a minute. Then he used a wet rag to wipe it off.

Step 2: Tone with PCA Skin Hydrating Toner

“Doesn’t really have any alcohol or anything in it,” he explained when talking about this nourishing toner from PCA Skin. “Keeps you hydrated.”

He did however skip this step for his morning regimen, opting to use it later in the evening.

Step 3: Apply Clindamycin Phosphate Topical Solution

He wiped his face with a topical solution used to treat acne.

Step 4: Layer on Urban SkinRX Super C Brightening Serum

“I stand by my family, I stand by my God, I stand by my career and I stand by this, this is fire, I’m telling you guys,” he said of the Black-owned vitamin C serum.

He used the dropper to squeeze the liquid onto different sections of his face, then rubbed it in using an upward motion.

Step 5: Seal everything in with Cerave Facial Moisturizing Lotion with SPF 30

“Everybody needs to make sure that you have some type of sunscreen or something on,” Wilds remarked.

He placed several dollops of the drugstore lotion onto his forehead, cheekbones, nose and chin, then rubbed it in.

“Skincare is very much like working out in a sense, right. You can work out a bunch all the time and not see the results that you want. When in all actuality the results that you are looking for come from what you’re eating,” he suggested.

For Wilds, a key element of a good skincare routine is figuring out what you’re eating that you probably shouldn’t be.

“Then the next big thing, figure out things that are stressing you, that shouldn’t be,” he advised. “Your skin is just like anything else the more you take care of it, the more it will take care of you.”
