I tried the viral Peter Thomas Roth firming eye cream — here are my thoughts and if you should buy it

A few weeks ago, there was a lot of hype around an under-eye product by Peter Thomas Roth. This happened seemingly overnight after a TikTok video showing a woman using it to tighten her under-eye area went viral. Like, mega-viral.

For context, this is an eye formula that helps tighten, firm and smooth the look of crow’s feet, fine lines and wrinkles for a “temporary” effect. Although the product sold out almost instantly — you can still get the mega-size on the Peter Thomas Roth website — I did get my hands on it to test it out myself.

Here are my thoughts:

I wasn’t expecting as drastic of a change (as seen in the video) under my eyes (I have filler), but I did notice an instant tightening. It’s like waking up after a really restful sleep. Or, you know, getting botox. Although the TikTok video showed a striking transformation, I don’t want people who only need minor adjustments to count this product out: It does what it says it’ll do. And quickly.

First, you don’t need a lot of product to make a difference. However much you think you need, you probably need even less than that. Since the product is pricey to some, it’s good to know that it’ll last you a while.

When you apply this under-eye cream, you will feel it pulling the skin. It is not painful, but it can feel weird if you’ve never experienced it before. It takes a few minutes for the product to dry down, but thankfully it was not sticky or greasy.

I also noticed it left a faint white cast under my eye (take a look at the photo), which felt a bit chalky to the touch. The only reason it’s worth noting is that you may want to apply makeup and worry it’ll mess with your concealer. I did, in fact, add makeup later and did not notice the product breaking up my concealer. However, if you are heavy-handed, proceed with caution.

Unfortunately, this product sold out almost instantly. For a limited time, it's back in stock on some retailers. Many retailers are still out of stock, so if you can get your hands on this, I recommend you do it sooner than later.

Peter Thomas Roth still also has other eye products worth trying, including the brand’s super-size un-wrinkle eye treatment (incredibly pricey, but worth every penny). But if you don’t want to wait, get the mega-size that’s still available.
