Glossier Ultralip Review

After two pandemic years of working from home and wearing leggings and no makeup, I decided it was time for a reset. I’m still working from home, but I’m back in real clothes and doing my makeup every morning before logging on. And you know what? It feels great! It’s not the same normalcy I had before, but it’s a new normal that I really like and look forward to.

Of course, when I decided to resume wearing makeup, I couldn’t just go back to the products I was using in 2020. They had long since expired. So I decided to use it as an opportunity to try a few cult beauty products boasting rave reviews, and Glossier’s Ultralip was at the top of the list. I’m not the kind of bold lipstick girl who can do a bright matte red, but bare lips aren’t my style either. I need a subtle wash of color on my lips to brighten my face. Ultralip is described as “the rich moisture of a balm, the sheen of a gloss and the buildable color of a lip tint,” and that was just what I was looking for.

For my color, I decided on Vesper because I’m a sucker for a pink-red fuchsia, and it really did look good on every model on Glossier’s website.

When my Ultralip arrived, I first tried it on completely bare lips to see if it was actually as soft and hydrating as it claimed. It delivered way beyond my expectations. I almost always need to apply a gloss or balm over lipstick because I find most to be too drying, but the Ultralip really is moisturizing and nourishing enough for my lips, which are prone to dryness all on their own.

As for the color, I definitely picked right. Vesper really is a universally flattering shade that's perfect for everyday wear and also buildable. I usually just do one or two swipes for video meetings during the day. But I did layer it on a bit more for a date night, and the color was bolder and more noticeable.

Boy Brow was, still is and will always be my No. 1 favorite Glossier product, but Ultralip is now a very close second. It really is one of the best lip colors I've ever tried. I'm already planning a trip to the Glossier store to sample a few others colors because I need another Ultralip in my makeup bag.

Whether you’re a casual makeup wearer like me or you’re a makeup pro, Ultralip definitely deserves a spot in your beauty arsenal. All the rave reviews about it are 100% accurate and true.
