Your shower probably has bottles of shampoo, conditioner, perhaps a hair mask in your hair care lineup – but do you have a scalp mask?
Until testing out Briogeo’s brand new Charcoal + Tea Tree Cooling Hydration Scalp Mask, I hadn’t given one a shot. While I’ve tried my fair share of hair masks, beyond using an exfoliating shampoo on really dirty hair, I hadn’t given my scalp much of a thought.
So when Briogeo’s newest product in their Scalp Revival collection launched last month, I was very excited to give it a try as a long-time fan of the brand. Keep scrolling to read my honest thoughts and opinions on the new product.

The mask itself is “formulated with Binchotan charcoal and a refreshing blend of tea tree, peppermint, and spearmint oils to hydrate, nourish, soothe, and instantly cool your scalp.” And not only is the product vegan and cruelty-free, but it’s also 98 percent naturally derived.
Essentially, if you have a dry, itchy or flakey scalp, this mask can help, no matter your hair type. While I don’t regularly struggle with an irritated scalp, my skin does get dry during the winter, and can always use some added TLC.
The instructions on the mask say that you should start off with an exfoliating shampoo for the best results. So I began my shower routine with Briogeo’s micro-exfoliating shampoo from the same collection. (But I also love this Himalayan salt one from Goop!)
Next, after washing out the shampoo, I applied the mask to my scalp. My first impression of the mask was that it smells just like spearmint gum and its consistency is super smooth. It also has a slightly cool sensation when first applied to the skin — not unlike a minty lip balm.
The product’s bottle has a pointed tip, so applying thin lines of the mask from the front to the back of my head was relatively easy. However, after squeezing out a few lines, I ended up just putting some product in my hands and rubbing it directly onto my scalp with my fingers.
After about ten minutes, I rinsed the mask out of my hair without much difficulty, applied my normal conditioner, finished my shower and let my hair air dry.
Since using the mask, I’m happy to report that my scalp has felt well moisturized but not greasy. And the little winter-weather-induced flakes I was dealing with at the front of my scalp are almost completely gone. So not only does this extra step between my shampoo and conditioner feel like added pampering, but the mask actually works.
In short, while I probably won’t need to use this mask on a regular basis, I’m excited to work it into my hair care routine when it’s justified or if I just have a little extra time in the shower.
