The NSW Government’s much-anticipated $100 dining and entertainment vouchers have been delayed in order to support restaurants after the Christmas rush.

Under the $500 million Dine & Discover NSW scheme, announced as part of the NSW Government’s 2020-21 Budget, every adult who resides in the state have been given $100 worth of vouchers to help stimulate the local hospitality sector.

A trial for the scheme should have commenced in The Rocks this week, but this has now been delayed until early next year after businesses taking part in the scheme asked for it to be pushed back.

Many restaurants in The Rocks have been booked out during December, and asked for a roll-out in January instead, News.com.au reported.

The trial will begin next year after the Christmas rush fades and businesses see a decline in customers.

“December for the hospitality industry is traditionally a time where there are not those demand issues,” Restaurant and Catering Australia CEO Wes Lambert told 7News.

Another trial in Broken Hill was scheduled to begin on Monday 14 December, but will now also be pushed back to January.

More about NSW’s $100 vouchers

The $100 vouchers actually comprise of four $25 vouchers.

Two $25 vouchers can be spent for dining out, such as restaurants, cafes, pubs and clubs, while the other two are “going out” vouchers that can be spent at cultural institutions, like performing arts, cinemas and amusement parks.

To use them, you’ll have to have a MyServiceNSW account and app. The vouchers will only be digital, to ensure the venues are Covid-safe.

Here’s everything you need to know about NSW’s $100 vouchers.
