Gold Coast tradies have found around $200,000 while clearing a work site in Runaway Bay.

The group found the money around 9:30pm on Thursday, with the cash stuffed in plastic containers, according to the Gold Coast Bulletin.

“It had (a plastic bag) stuffed inside a (plastic container), and they were melted shut, so no air could ever get in,” tradesman Jake Johnston told Nine News.

“They were buried about 600mm below the surface, below the trees.”

Police are now investigating the discovery.

Earlier this year the Australian Federal Police seized more than $600,000 during a raid on a western Sydney home, after two people threw hundreds of thousands of dollars around their western Sydney backyard and over the fence once they knew the police were coming.
